as of sunday night at 9:00 pm, i will be an official member of the omicron pledge class of chi sigma alpha.
i hope i'm taking a step in a right direction.
why am i doing this, you ask?
is it for the partying?
is it for the boys?
is it for the title of being in a sorority?
no, no, and NO.
i've had a whole quarter and a half to think about this now, and i've come up with a meaningful list of reasons for rushing/pledging...
1. ive never had siblings before. It would be nice to be part of a "sisterhood" and gain a circle of support and accountability.
2. i feel like i haven't been making new friends. At the beginning of the year, i felt trapped becuase i couldn't get out of my circle of high school friends. I disconnected myself from most of them and tried to go out on my own. in many ways, i have. However, i'm still not satisfied. i'd like to make more lasting, substantial friendships.
3. As for partying; it's really whatever. I don't really like that stuff too much anyway. lol. plus, i think im becoming more and more of a homebody these days. junk food and gossip girls is a lot more appealing...
4. Boys: no no no no NO. if i meet anyone, it'll be at church, in class, or at a library. kthx.
5. i've really clicked with some of the girls during rush week. more so than i have with many people on campus. i would really like to get to know them :)
6. sounds nerdy, but i really like the community service aspect of this sorority. They're really committed to serving the community and i really respect that.
7. i just want to see more. college is the same ol same ol right now. I want to take part in the full experience, not just what i limit myself to.
i refuse to box myself into self-constructed limits.
i hope this will be a new piece to discovering more about myself, and i hope that it will be a worth while step in creating lasting, quality friendships.
cheers!
